What is hookah and shisha?

The use of Shisha has been traced back as far as the 16th century across much of Asia, Africa and Europe. As a result there are many different names for the practice such as Nargile, Lula, Hookah and Shisha. Technically speaking, Hookah is the actual water pipe through which the Shisha tobacco or flavour is smoked, but many of these terms are interchangeable.
All hookah and shisha pipes are made up of a few important common components:
  • The Bowl is packed with the flavour, once covered by some perforated foil, coals are used to heat the tobacco for smoking.
  • The Hose(s) is the flexible tube which is used for smoking and can easily be passed around so that everyone can participate.
  • The Water Jar / Vase / Base is used to humidify and cool the smoke coming through the pipe.
At Buy Shisha, we sell a good range of hookah and shisha pipes.
